Lousy excuse for illegal dumping angers Vryheid ward councillor
'Community members know where the dumpsite is, we cannot have people dumping rubbish wherever they want.'
Illegal dumping will not be tolerated, says the DA’s councillor, Magda Viktor.
The ward 8 councillor made this statement last week after a community member was caught dumping garden refuse in an empty field near the SPCA/ airport area.
According to Cllr Viktor, this was not the first time this community member was caught dumping in this area and having warned him during the previous occasion, Cllr Viktor decided to call Public Safety’s TS Mthembu to deal with the matter.

“Community members know where the dumpsite is, we cannot have people dumping rubbish wherever they want. There is also building rubble and household litter dumped around various places in town and we are clamping down on culprits” said Cllr Viktor.
Cllr Viktor went on to explain that this community member has told her before that he cannot drive all the way down to the dumpsite to dump his rubbish as it is too far.
This community member was given a R2000 fine and requested to pick up his rubbish and take it to the dumpsite.
Cllr Viktor hopes that this example will deter other members of the public from illegal dumping.
