No arrests made in months as rampant cable theft continues in Vryheid
So far, no arrests have been made since the rise of cable theft late last year.
The DA’s Councillor Magda Viktor has called on community members to keep an eye out as cable thieves continue to comb through the town.
The most recent case reported occurred in the morning on Wednesday along Spoor Street.
According to Cllr Viktor, residents around the area claim to have not seen nor heard anything.

“It is so strange that nobody heard anything as the cables were stolen within a residential area. Surely the dogs must have been barking out of control, it is really strange that no one suspected anything,” she said.
Cllr Viktor says that a case has been opened at the local SAPS, adding on to a docket that was opened for AbaQulusi Municipality and specifically dealing with the cable theft.
So far, no arrests have been made since the rise of cable theft late last year and municipal officials are still urging community members to come forward and report suspects.
In January, cables believed to be worth R100 000 were stolen in the Kwatas area, no arrests were made even after municipal officials set up a meeting with members of the community requesting that those who may have seen or heard anything come forward.
AbaQulusi still seems far from a solution to this problem, meanwhile the dreadful ‘izinyoka’ continue to loot their coffers through this ongoing crime.
