CRIME WARNING: Robbers lying in wait at residents’ homes

'They attack as soon as the victim unlocks the door to enter their home.'

HOUSE robberies have spiked, with at least six incidents being reported in the last week, warns Vryheid SAPS.
Constable Nontobeko Zwane told the Vryheid Herald that two knife-wielding thugs are laying in wait for residents at their homes.

“They attack as soon as the victim unlocks the door to enter their home. That is when they force the victim into the home at knife-point, demanding appliances, cellphones, jewellery and cash,” said Const. Zwane.

“Another way they are conducting these robberies, is by knocking on the door and then attacking when the victim responds to the knock. This type of crime is being reported mostly on Utrecht and Emmett Streets, as well as in the Kwatas area. Fortunately, nobody has been injured during these robberies.”

Const. Zwane urges residents to be aware of their surroundings at all times. “Do not enter your premises by yourself. Rather, ask a neighbour to help you by keeping watch as you enter your home,” she advised.
