Farming community rallies together to protect themselves from attackers
Citizens of smaller farming communities in NKZN are rallying together to ensure their own safety.
GIVEN the political climate across the country, exacerbated by the current ‘land expropriation’ narrative and the seeming disregard for the safety of farmers by those in power, it’s hardly surprising that citizens of smaller farming communities are rallying together to ensure their own safety.
After all, it seems blindingly apparent that no one else is going to step in to assist them as they come under attack from the very nation for whom they provide.
With this current humanitarian crisis at the forefront of their minds, the residents of Louwsburg, a small farming community near Vryheid, recently met with AfriForum, the human rights watchdog, to discuss the way forward with regard to their safety.

“The Louwsburg people are worried about their safety,” states Vryheid’s AfriForum Chairman, Andrè van der Walt, “especially in remote areas like Madaka…”
“The first and most serious problem is communication,” he adds, “which we are now addressing with radio repeaters that will be erected at strategic points. Radio communication will then be possible from Louwsburg to Vryheid as well as to Pongola. Remote areas may have to erect additional repeaters. As soon as communication is established, other strategic matters will be attended to…”
