Work on the Newcastle Library project is 72 per cent complete.
Yet opposition councillors have called into question so-called slow progress of the facility.
According to DA councillor, Bertie Meiring, the library may only open in June.

He claimed the contractor had abandoned work on-site numerous times.
This led to fruitless discussion between relevant parties, and ultimately resulted in damages in December.
“During December 2017, the progress was 60 per cent instead of 76 per cent. A catch-up plan was requested during that month but was never submitted.”

In his State of the Town Address (SOTA), Mayor, Makhosini Nkosi confirmed the project was 72 per cent complete, and acknowledged the challenges experienced.
However, he said it was how one finished that counted.
