“I will be holding my rates back if I don’t get a response from the municipality,” these were the words of an irate resident who had to also pay the cost for poor service delivery.

The resident, who requested to remain anonymous, said that she was driving down Dahlia Road in Forderville recently when the large potholes damaged the rim on her VW Citi Golf.

She says that after a while she noticed that the tyre was flat. The vehicle was taken to a repair centre in Estcourt and this is when the resident received the disappointing news.

“I was told that my rim had broken on the inside. About 20cm had chipped off. The staff at the garage said it was caused by a pothole,” she explained.

The costly steps of repair and then replacement began and in total, she paid a whopping R9 000 to replace the rims and tyres on her vehicle.

This resident feels that the municipality should bear the cost for this, saying that if the roads were in an acceptable condition, this would not happen.

“There is nowhere to drive. The potholes are getting worse. What are we paying rates for? I think the residents need to take a stand and stop paying rates. What service delivery are we getting?” questioned the angry reader.

She added that she has been living in the newly developed residential area of Mkamba Park and the lack of service delivery is evident.

“We don’t have street lights, refuse is scattered everywhere. Is this service delivery?” she commented.

This resident is adamant that she will not be paying for rates and services from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality until she sees tangible service delivery.
