Protesters stood for hours waiting for their demands to be heard.

A municipal official was badly assaulted during the protest. It is believed that angry protesters attacked the official at the Caltex garage in Murchison Street. He was rushed to hospital.

Protesters dispersed late yesterday afternoon and the roads were re-opened.

It appears that the municipal workers were protesting for a wage increase.

Public Safety and police are still monitoring the situation in the CBD.
