The Ladysmith Gazette recently ran an article about the huge pothole in Francis Road.
The pothole is so big that it forces motorists to swerve out of the way, whether into oncoming traffic or onto the pavement to avoid damaging their vehicles.
Not forgetting the potholes at the busy intersection of King and Murchison Street.
These are not the only two places where potholes have just been left to grow in size.
“There is no change and it feels like the town is falling apart,” said one frustrated resident.
Alfred Duma Local Municipality communications manager Siyabonga Maphalala commented on the matter by saying, “Please be advised that we are aware of the potholes mentioned. Our area experienced a high percentage of rainfall this year that has created a number of road failures due to water ingress (infiltration). We are currently implementing a plan that will assist in reducing the backlog quicker.”
Commenting on the Francis Road pothole, he said, “This is caused by the District repairing a pipe. We will address that shortly in less than seven days with the District and surely solutions will be agreed upon.”
He concluded that, “We appeal to the community and motorists to approach the affected areas with caution and awareness. The daily increase of potholes remains a concern to all of us and council will develop maintenance plans to patch them accordingly.”
