Political Killing Update: Alleged hit-man in court for ANC candidate’s deadly ambush in KZN

Gamede was arrested on August 22, 2016, and is still in custody

The man arrested for the brutal killing of ANC Ward 20 candidate Khanyisile Ngobese-Sibisi is set to appear in court tomorrow (May 23).

The alleged hit-man’s trial will resume in the Madadeni High Court and is set to conclude on June 8.

“Siphamandla Gamede was arrested on August 22, 2016, and is still in custody. He was charged for murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm,” said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi of the HAWKS.

41-year-old Khanyisile Ngobese-Sibisi was killed on Mandela Day (July 18, 2016) in a deadly ambush in Centenary Road near the Leonardsville sports ground.

Khanyisile was in Acaciavale to deliver blankets to elderly people with regards to the ’67 Minutes for Mandela Day’.

It would appear that as she drove past gunmen who were lying in wait for her, they opened fire with assault rifles.

A hail of bullets shattered the driver’s side window of the Mercedes she was in. The car was heavily marked with ANC regional election regalia.

She was rushed straight to hospital, but was pronounced DOA (dead on arrival) at La Verna Hospital.

President Cyril Ramaphosa recently established an inter-ministerial committee in the security cluster. This comes after the murder of ANC convenor in the Moses Mabhida region, Musawenkosi Mchunu. Mchunu was shot dead on May 11 this year.

The ministerial task team comprises the departments of justice, police, state security and defence .
