Despite running parallel to a main road, Lyell Street bears a look of neglect.
Residents have pointed out that almost a year after attention was drawn to its poor state, infrastructure troubles and general decay has continued in the area.

In addition, work on its sewerage appears to have never concluded.
The municipality undertook a project to repair a rotted sewage pipe in the early part of 2018, after an obstruction resulted in waste water partially flooding Lyell Street.
Barricades and digging zones remain months later.
Portions of the road are treacherous to navigate in a vehicle, thanks to a significant amount of mud, gravel, rock and potholes along its length.
Pipes and heaps of earth loom at the verges and old railway platform.
One problem which appears to have lessened is that of littering, following concerns in August of 2017 that the area was being transformed into a communal dumping ground.
These complaints were centered on the platform and adjacent veld area.
Although credit was given where it was due, the municipality has failed to provide any response as to the reason Lyell Street remains in its current state.
Two weeks have passed with no answers and seemingly no concern.
