PREVIEW: Lions Club makes winter a little warmer for those in need

Approximately 130 people lined up at Drakensberg Primary School on Friday, June 1, to enjoy a bit of ‘free shopping’.

Imagine not having a cosy blanket, a pair of winter slippers or even a warm jersey on icy winter nights.

Sadly, this is the situation many Newcastillians face during this season.

In an effort to ease the ‘winter blues’, the Newcastle Lions Club decided to collect warm clothes, winter pyjamas, shoes and blankets to give to needy families during its second Warmer Winter Project this past weekend.

Approximately 130 people lined up at Drakensberg Primary School on June 1, to enjoy a bit of ‘free shopping’.

Items were laid out on tables, where recipients could then browse through the clothing and choose what they needed.
