Humorous signs bring attention to potholes around Ladysmith

Soon, members of the public began moving the signs around to where other potholes are

By now, everyone in Ladysmith either knows of the hilarious signs found near potholes in town or have personally driven past one.

Frikkie and Cobus Kruger are the ones responsible for these humorous signs that range from the famous ‘Houdini’s hole: Watch your car disappear in this one’ to a giraffe disappearing into a pothole.

Cobus first had the idea and then Frikkie got involved, helping him create and put up the signs.

“We wanted to draw attention to the potholes, as they are one of the main service delivery issues in town,” states Frikkie.

The signs have drawn a lot of attention and after a week of the signs being put up, the Francis Road pothole (that the men dubbed ‘Houdini’s hole’) was repaired.

Soon, members of the public began moving the signs around to where other potholes are.

“People see it as a way to communicate and draw attention to the issues they are having,” explains Frikkie.

The two men say they are willing to help their community in any way possible.

The municipality has already put a plan into action to combat potholes, and many potholes have already been filled.
