UPDATE: Search for Frikkie van Staden ends in tragedy

After a multi-day search operation, the body of Frikkie van Staden was found at Drakensbergkloof on Friday morning.

The search for missing resident, Frikkie van Staden has ended in tragedy.

Officials have confirmed the Newcastillian’s body was found by a security guard on the reserve at a farm (Bluebend) on Friday morning.

He then led police to the scene.

At the conclusion of the extensive search operation, officials at Ingogo SAPS said the inquest docket opened for a missing person would likely be updated to charges of murder.

Frikkie’s body will undergo an autopsy later in the week.

Family members said despite the many stories doing the rounds, the facts remained he was last seen last Monday evening, and did not arrive at work on Tuesday.

His vehicle was later found near Drakensbergkloof.

Members of the van Staden family extended their appreciation for the messages, calls and bouquets sent, but said Frikkie’s parents were inconsolable.

His service takes place on Friday from 11am at Jireh Park (4 Sagittarius Avenue).
