ABAQULUSI mayor, Cllr Jerry Sibiya, has warned that con artists are once again offering employment at the municipality for a fee.
A man who claims to be from Msinga but employed as a senior manager at AbaQulusi Municipality, has been contacting residents of Vryheid guaranteeing employment at the municipality for a once off payment of R500.
“This is a new scam that is coming through,” warns Cllr Sibiya. “I want the community to know that there is no way the municipality would ask for R500 for an advertised post. They must be careful not to be scammed by individuals that they do not know. Applicants would never be asked to pay for any posts. They have to go through the interviews, and employment is granted only if they possess the skills required for the position. This is the only way that we recruit new staff. Anything else is bribery.”

According to Cllr Sibiya, the con artist provides the following bank account number for payment to be made: 1147872821.
“The account seems to belong to a Mr Ezom, but that is all the information we have on this individual. Just know that it is definitely a scam,” he concluded. “I don’t know how we are going to fight this. These criminals are seemingly overtaking us in AbaQulusi, if you look at robberies, burglaries and even cable theft. The community needs to stand together against crime. This is the only way we can bring an end to it.”
