Constable among the suspects on trial for armed robbery

FIVE suspects, among them a constable from Ulundi, will be on trial for armed robbery at the Vryheid Regional Court in August.

Constable KC Mdlalose, Welcome Shandu, Vusumuzi Qwabe, Ntokozo Qwabe and Andile Helela were arrested in connection with a spate of armed robberies that took place at Vryheid clothing outlets in May 2016.

Witnesses said the suspects entered the stores at close to closing time demanding clothing and cash, and also robbed staff and customers at gunpoint.

Among the stores that were hit are Fashion Factory, Fashion Fusion, Moola’s and Studio 88.

Some of the clothing has been recovered, and the firearm licensed to Const. Mdlalose has been sent for ballistics testing.
