Update: Authorities clear Van Reenen’s Pass

The Tugela Toll Plaza and Tugela East Toll Plaza remain closed until the traffic backlog at Van Reenen's Pass has been cleared and traffic flow returns to normal

Today (June 20), South African truck drivers staged a protest regarding a wage dispute and are demanding that no foreigners be permitted to drive trucks in South Africa.

The N3 at Van Reenen’s Pass has been blocked for the last 15 hours due to the protest.

Law enforcement and other services are now busy clearing Van Reenen’s Pass after successfully dispersing the protesters.

At the time of publishing this article, the northbound lanes (to Johannesburg) had been cleared of obstructions and the backlog of traffic was busy being cleared and monitored.

Motorists are urged to delay their trips or use alternative routes, ie R74 and N11.
