Light pole held up by a mere piece of wire

The light pole in question was left dangling after a car crashed into it a few months ago

A light pole has been left hanging from a piece of wire in Club Road, Colenso.

The light pole in question was left dangling after a car crashed into it a few months ago.

Street resident Mr Malan says the municipality came and put a new light pole next to the damaged one, yet they left the old one and simply tied wire around it.

Mr Malan says that if there is a slight breeze, the light pole sways from side to side. “If the wind is strong enough, the pole could easily come crashing to the ground or worse than that, injure someone or fall onto a car.”

IFP councillor Abbas Warasally has taken the matter further with the municipality to have the broken light pole removed and the cables fixed to the new light pole.
