It’s been almost five months since its collapse and besides the clean-up action after the collapse; no other efforts have been made to repair the bridge.

The route is used daily by both vehicles and pedestrians, which include learners. Ever since the framework collapsed, pedestrians are forced to walk on the road causing great danger.

Upon a visit to the bridge, an Estcourt News reporter noticed how easily it is to become injured, as the bridge has no railings as a support structure. In February Ward 10 Councillor Edith Lite reported that UThukela District Municipality intervened with clearing out the affected pipes and that a submission was made to the Community Safety Department and Education Department to assist in repairing the bridge.

The morning of the collapse left parents frantic over their children’s safety. The Estcourt News enquired from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality about plans for repairing this well-used bridge, no comment was received at the time of going to print. Community members are warned to be extra cautious when using this bridge and not to walk alone.
