Agony for SASSA recipients as long queue forms outside Dundee Post Office
Infuriated grant recipients have been left standing outside the Dundee Post Office for more than seven hours
Frustrated SASSA grant recipients at the Dundee Post Office feel that the Post Office should not have taken the deal to pay out their grant money.
The Dundee Post Office is today flooded with a large crowd of angry recipients who say that they have been there since dawn and have still not received their money.
” I have been here since 6am and yet to receive my grant, it was better when Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) was paying our grants,” said irate Xolani Nkomizwayo.
“There are no toilets here and we are hungry, we have elderly people who are diabetic and they also have not been served,” he continued.

Xolani, who lives in Glencoe, also mentioned how last month payouts were completed in the evening, resulting in police having to take people home as they missed their transport.
Criminals are also taking advantage of the situation as people get mugged on their way home in the late evening.
Happy Simelane from Nyanyadu explained that she had been there since 10am and the line hasn’t moved at all. “This line is not moving and I doubt that I will get my grant today and the worse part is that I don’t have money to go back home with.”
She concluded by saying the new SASSA card is giving her problems as she can’t use it at any ATM like the old card. Every time she tries to use it there, the transaction is declined.

A total number of two tills were operating, one for the general postage and one for grant payouts.
The line was out the door and crowds were standing impatiently in the cold wind.
A person working at the Post Office, who did not wish to be named, confirmed that the new card and system were proving to be problematic, hence the long delays. She did say that a security guard at the Post Office had informed those queuing up of the problem.
