Police make arrests after robberies
SAPS are investigating multiple robberies linked to assaults across Newcastle, Madadeni and Osizweni.
Several arrests have been made after a spate of robberies reported in Newcastle, Madadeni and Osizweni on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16.
According to Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Officer, SAC Lizzy Arumugam, the first incident took place in Madadeni Section 2.
“The complainant alleged he was approached by two men who assaulted him and stole his belongings,” she said.
Arumugam confirmed that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the robbery.
Victims assaulted during robberies
Police also apprehended three suspects linked to a robbery in Panorama Drive.
The victim alleged that three men used physical force to rob her of her belongings.
Two more suspects were arrested following a robbery near a tavern in Osizweni Section A. The victim reported that he was assaulted with a bottle by two men, who then robbed him of his belongings.
A final suspect was arrested on May 16 after a reported robbery at the corner of Kirkland and Voortrekker streets. The victim was allegedly threatened with a knife.
