Newcastle Municipality Account changes leaves residents confused
Officials at the Newcastle Municipal offices have also confirmed the changes will be made automatically with regards to debit orders.

According to officials, the Newcastle Municipality recently changed its banking service provider to Nedbank.
As a result of the changes, many residents were left confused as to the status of their recent bill settlements, and whether the recent payments made into the previous (First National Bank) account were valid or not.

As from July 2, 2018 all payments for municipal accounts should be made into the the new account.
However, according to Newcastle Mayor, Makhosini Nkosi, the changes would not affect any individual payments made after this date.
“We have changed the bank in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act. The FNB account will still be active until we are satisfied that everyone is on board,” Cllr Nkosi confirmed on social media.
Officials at the Newcastle Municipal offices have also confirmed the changes will be made automatically with regards to debit orders.
The Municipal Finance Management Act No. 56 of 2003 (MFMA), which came into effect in July 2004, ordered that all Municipal service providers should be determined through a tender process.

Since the National Treasury’s primary objective was to secure sound and sustainable management of governmental financial affairs on national, provincial and local levels, and to lead such policies and reforms, Newcastle’s municipality opened the tender process and Nedbank was chosen as the successful bidder to be its new financial service provider.
