Ladysmith gets a golden ticket in Idols competition
Nosipho auditioned due to the fact that her Instagram followers encouraged her to do so

Ladysmith has its very own Idols star!
One of our own snatched a ‘golden ticket’ at the auditions in January and February, and is through to Theatre Week.
17-year-old Nosipho Nomcebo Silinda, who resides in St Chad’s, has a true passion for singing that led her to audition for Idols South Africa.
“I sing all the time,” she states with a smile.
Nosipho says she auditioned because her Instagram followers encouraged her to do so.
“I didn’t really prepare in any way; I just decided on a song that I constantly sing and tried my best.”
Nosipho’s friends are proud of her and her parents are there to support her through it all. “It was nerve-wracking to audition, but I was brave and just believed in myself.”
Nosipho hopes to follow her passion and make it big in the music industry.
“I love music, so I see myself in that career. I want to inspire youngsters and make a difference for the better. Considering where I’m from, I feel like I can make my hometown proud since many don’t get this opportunity,” Nosipho says.
When she is not singing her heart out, she is working hard at school as a Grade 11 student at Harvest High.
After several auditions, the Idols performers are narrowed down to 100 in the Theatre rounds.
Semi-finalists perform live and are chosen by the audience to qualify for the round of the last 10-12 finalists.
Viewers have seven hours following the broadcast of the show to vote for their favourite by phone, SMS or online.
The following night’s episode, the contestants with the fewest votes go home.
All the best, Nosipho!
