Familiar face returns to the UThukela SAPS Cluster

She is always willing to engage with the community on issues concerning crime and has already effected several changes in the Uthukela Cluster

The UThukela South African Police Service (SAPS) Cluster has a new acting cluster commander. This cluster includes Estcourt and surrounding areas and is headed by Brigadier F Bantham who is from a pioneering Ladysmith family.

Brigadier Bantham is a ‘top cop’. She matriculated at Windsor Secondary School in 1986 and began her policing career in Ladysmith on July 26, 1990 – 28 years ago. She served in the Visible Policing Unit for a short time and then joined the Detective Service. She has excelled in her service to the police and has never looked back, in making the SAPS her career choice.

She has served as a Station Commander at the Elandslaagte SAPS, Colenso SAPS, and Umbumbulu SAPS, as well as CSC Commander at Ezakheni SAPS. She is also a seasoned detective, having worked at Ladysmith Detective Branch for most of her career.

She was appointed as Station Commander of Mountain Rise in 2011. She has acted in the position of Cluster Commander in the UMgungundlovu Cluster, among other senior appointments.

Brigadier Bantham holds a B Tech Degree in Policing and is a decorated officer who has been bestowed with many medals, including the 20-year Loyal Service Medal, the Soccer World Cup Medal as well as the Centenary Medal.
In 2007 she won the National Prestige Award for Women in the SAPS.

In June 2018, Brigadier Bantham received an award from the National Commissioner in recognition of her role in nation building. Throughout her career, the Brigadier has accumulated many of accolades for her outstanding work in the communities that she has served.

An open door approach has always been her policy. She stands by her words that no task is too small for her to handle.

She is always willing to engage with the community on issues concerning crime and has already effected several changes in the Uthukela Cluster in an effort to combat and inevitably reduce crime.
