Tour Guide’s vehicle stoned on Rorke’s Drift road

Earlier this year, the Rorke's Drift area was under siege after protesting residents blocked roads with rocks to vent their anger over what they said were broken promises of installing electricity in their area.

A tour guide had a nasty experience when a boulder was thrown at his vehicle while travelling on the Rorke’s Drift road on Monday evening.
The guide, who did not wish to be named, said he had gone ‘out on a recce to look at the possibility of evening tours to battle sites like Rorke’s Drift’, and was returning home at about 6.30pm when ‘all of a sudden this boulder struck the front of the car’.
“I swerved to the right and veered off the road. The rock struck the right-hand side of the front of the vehicle where the bonnet and headlight meet.” He did not see anyone nor did anyone approach him after he stopped.
He returned home to Dundee and called the police who asked him to come into town the next day.
“I was a bit weary to drive into Dundee with a bust headlight.

“The traffic police would not take kindly to that!” He went down to the police station the next morning but was concerned that the officer on duty only made an occurrence book entry and did not give him an official CAS number.
“I am concerned that if this is not registered as a crime, the stats will not reach the national police commissioner’s office and give a false sense of safety in the area.”
