Fake News: Metro police recruitment (KZN)
"It is hurtful and embarrassing to inform them that no jobs are available"
A message circulating on social media stating that Durban Metro Police are taking on new recruits is not true.
The message says that the opening date for applicants is Friday, August 24, and that applications will close on September 9. It goes on to say that application forms will be available at Metro Police Head Office in Old Fort Road or at the training college in Pinetown.
Durban Metro Police have been inundated with phone calls, from as early as 6am today (August 23), regarding the supposed posts that are available. The fake message has gone viral on social media.
Speaking to Sibusiso Nene (Metro network and communications instructor), people from as far as the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga have been enquiring about the positions.

“Most of the callers sounded so keen on being part of Metro. It is hurtful and embarrassing to inform them that there are no jobs available. One could hear the desperation in their voices,” said Nene.
Nene stressed that Metro Police do not use social media as a platform to advertise jobs.
“We follow the right channels when posts are available, and that is advertising positions in national newspapers,” added Nene.
