Banele gets a new view of the world

Dr Davey subspecialises in modern cornea graft surgery and cornea diseases, laser eye surgery and premium cataract surgery in Greece and Canada.

Dundee teenager, Banele Zikode, has undergone a life-changing operation that has enabled her to see the world much clearer.
The 17-year-old has, for years, suffered from poor vision and is now the first cornea transplant patient to undergo such an operation at Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg. The operation was done by specialist ophthalmologist, Dr Nicholas Davey, Mediclinic’s resident eye surgeon.
Dr Davey says he received the cornea from the Durban Eye bank where donated corneas in KZN are sent to help people in desperate need, like Banele.

“I am forever grateful to Dr Davey and Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg hospital for their professional care and for helping me to see so much better.”

“There is a dire shortage of organ donors in South Africa. I encourage everyone to register as organ donors today as these organs are used to change the lives of so many people in need throughout South Africa”, says Dr Davey.
Banele is very excited about her improved vision and is relieved that something could be done for her progressing severe vision loss from a condition called keratoconus.
