Motorists face huge petrol price hikes

Tourism will also be affected with tour guides having to increase prices because of the petrol price hik

Petrol will soon be a more precious commodity than expensive perfume. A huge increase of around R1,14 a litre is expected at the end of the month. The Central Energy Fund says a weaker Rand  – R14.83 to one Dollar today – and  higher international oil price is to blame.

The most recent hike was capped at 5c after government intervention but was dubbed a “once off” to provide citizens a short reprieve after sustained increases over five months in the lead-up to September. Fin24 calculated that the inland price of 95 octane petrol would rise to a possible record high of above R17 a litre, thus affecting food prices and transport costs.

Tourism will also be affected with tour guides having to increase prices because of the petrol price hike and the USA slapping South Africa as a dangerous destination following the release of the crime stats.
