Roaming cows have Glencoe residents up in arms

Cattle owners can be held liable for damages caused by their wandering animals

Motorists in Glencoe have urged the authorities to clamp down on stock owners who allow their cattle to roam around the town following two accidents involving cows.

The motorists were lucky to escape with serious injury following the accidents. One of the accidents occurred after sunset and the driver said it was ”almost impossible to see the animal that had wandered across the main road from Dundee”.  The car was severely damaged and the cow died on the scene.

Glencoe residents said the animals graze around the town especially in lower Celle Street. Glencoe SAPS confirmed that they are aware of the problem and had contacted the traffic department to ensure that the cows are kept off the road.

It is not clear at this stage who the cattle owner is.
