PREVIEW: KZN Growth Coalition has prosperity on its mind for Newcastle
Government and businesses needed to work together, to ensure the prosperity of both KZN and Newcastle.
Chairman of the Newcastle chapter, Johan Pieters provided feedback from a recent meeting with provincial leadership, including MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Sihle Zikalala, at the KwaZulu-Natal Growth Coalition Executive Breakfast a few weeks earlier.
In all senses, the summit was about ‘getting down to business’.

Pieters said the main message he took away from the breakfast was that government and businesses needed to work together, to ensure the prosperity of both KZN and Newcastle. This would require regular interaction between the NGC and municipality.
“We would like to create a business partnership with the Municipal Manager [Errol Mswane], his directors and the Mayor [Makhosini Nkosi] to sit down once a month to understand where the town is progressing to.”
Pieters said the NGC believed the municipality had to be managed as a business, and felt there was also opportunity to have feedback from both sides. He hoped these meetings would take place monthly.
