PREVIEW: Outrage over increase in Newcastle municipal accounts continue

This was due to varied circumstances from one household to another.

Hundreds of residents are venting their frustration over further bill increases.

According to the municipality’s official response however, each query needed to be individually investigated, as the ‘one size fits all’ approach did not necessarily apply.

This was due to varied circumstances from one household to another.

“For example, a consumer can be charged R4 000 for water should there be a water leak on the property that is undetected by the consumer.”

Despite growing outrage from the community, the municipality maintained consumption was reflective of water and electricity usage, multiplied by the respective tariff.
