Rain and even flooding expected, says weatherman

. Parents are advised to ensure that children utilise safe roads to get to school and teachers must ensure that children are not released from school in unsafe conditions.

Brace yourself for colder weather and possible flooding. The  South African Weather Service (SAWS) has sent out an alert  indicating that severe thunderstorms are expected over the western parts of KZN tomorrow with a possibility of hail and localised flooding.

KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube has placed disaster management teams on standby.

 

“Our teams are monitoring the situation, especially in low- lying areas that are prone to flooding. We are urging all motorists to be extra vigilant as roads can become slippery. We call for extra caution when crossing bridges. Those residing in low-lying areas are urged to seek shelter on higher ground”.

In Dundee, the temperature is expected to reach just 22 degrees today while on Sunday, it will plummet further to just 13 degrees with rain. Conditions should warm up again on Sunday.

KZN Cogta’s teams are in contact with the municipalities that could be affected by these heavy rains which are Umzinyathi, Amajuba, uThukela, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Impendle, uMngeni, Mpofana, Umzimkhulu and Greater Kokstad.
