Future ‘Bok’ in training?

Home grown sportsman, Jeandrè Labuschagne (19), may be Newcastle’s future Springbok rugby star in the making.

Recently selected to participate in the Under-20 Bokke squad trials, Jeandre’s expectations are high that he could end up playing in the upcoming Junior World Cup next year, if all goes according to plan.

Jeandrè has already made his mark at provincial level following his participation in the Under-19 Sharks rugby trials held in Durban earlier this year.

To his surprise and great excitement, he was selected to play in the Currie Cup Tournament which has played out over the past couple of months. The proudest moment he recalled was scoring a try in the finals played at Newlands.

“I was overwhelmed with joy. In that moment I felt so much pride and excitement. It just proved that all my hard work had finally paid off ,” he explained delightedly.

Jeandre says he will be training as much as possible over the next few months, as he wants to make the team next year and hopefully go on to play rugby professionally.

The humble youngster acknowledges he would not be where he is today without his Highlanders Coach, Oom Swannie (Andrè Swanepoel) and his two closest friends, Jaco Truter and Reuben Swanepoel.

“You have all motivated me, believed in me and stood by me through it all, and for that I thank you.”
