More than 1000 motorists educated at roadblock on N11
A total of 15 outstanding warrants of arrest were executed and 24 motorists were prosecuted for various offences
As the festive season begins, Alfred Duma Local Municipality’s road traffic section took to the N11 on Friday, November 30, to raise road safety awareness.
The campaign saw a co-ordinated team consisting of municipal traffic officers, police, RTI, as well as firefighters speaking to road-users and handing out pamphlets to drivers and passengers alike.
Mayor Vincent Madlala, Community Services Portfolio chairperson Cllr S Msibi, Executive Manager of Public Safety Mr Simelane and other councillors were part of the programme, also ensuring that the message was carried across.
On the day, traffic officers and police checked driver’s licences, permits and the standard of vehicles, as well as checking motorists for drunken driving.

More than 1000 motorists were educated on road safety with the intention to change driver behaviour. Intensified traffic law enforcement activities will be carried out during the month of December to try and reduce the number of road accidents and fatalities.
A total of 15 outstanding warrants of arrest were executed and 24 motorists were prosecuted for various offences during the campaign.
Alfred Duma Local Municipality would like to urge motorists, pedestrians and all road-users to take care this festive season and be vigilant on the roads.
“Obey the rules of the road and carry your driver’s licence with you. Plan the route to your holiday destination and allow yourself enough time to reach the destination.
“Make sure your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before departure. All lights and indicators, windscreens, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, shock absorbers, exhaust system and tyres should be carefully examined for faults,” is the message from the municipality.
