MEC appoints administrator to ensure ‘turn-around strategy’ puts Endumeni back on track

The intervention will last for six months

Endumeni Municipality is to have a MEC-appointed Administrator to ensure the implementation of a ‘turn-around strategy’ following months of turmoil in the Council.

Scelo Duma, from the MEC’s office and his team, addressed Councillors this morning and said the administrator – who will be introduced next week – will oversee all decisions made by Council, implement the turn-around strategy and ensure that due process is followed.

Mr Duma said the MEC’s intervention – approved by the KZN Cabinet – will last for a minimum of six months and may be extended depending on what progress has been made to ensure the smooth running of municipal affairs.

The intervention is one step away from the dissolution of Council which was done in Nquthu in 2017. The Endumeni Council will still meet, make decisions which officials will implement. The MEC’s Administrator will ensure that these decisions are lawful and correctly implemented for the benefit of all residents.
