Archery Club’s end-of-year shoot results

The Newcastle Bowhunting and Archery Club (NBAC) hosted a fun year-end shoot, setting up 22 two- and three-dimensional targets at the Mittal Shooting Range just outside of Newcastle.

On Saturday, archers channelled their inner ‘Legolas’, the Elvish bowman from the works of J.R.R Tolkien.

The Newcastle Bowhunting and Archery Club (NBAC) hosted a fun year-end shoot, setting up 22 two- and three-dimensional targets at the Mittal Shooting Range just outside of Newcastle.

A total of 14 competitors entered and were aiming to be the day’s best shot. Fanus Bergh of the NBAC explained entrants all aimed to score a maximum of 690 points in their respective categories.

“The day went very well. We even had people from Pretoria and Vryheid joining us,” he said.

The competition was divided into the red, blue and black peg categories, for expert, intermediate and novice archers respectively.

The competition results were as follows:

Red peg: Leon Venter took first place with 584 points, two points clear of second-placed Franco Joubert and five ahead of Petrus Delport.

Blue peg: Franco Koen scored 483 points to claim victory, ahead of Retha Erasmus on 466 points and Eben Lello on 427 points.

Black peg: Werner Erasmus clinched the win with 321 points.

The top three in each of the categories received a prize, as well as the first-time archers and other special category winners.

The day wrapped up with a ‘kuier’ around a braai.

“Well done to all the archers and for making our club’s year-end shoot a wonderful day,” Fanus concluded.
