Festive season police operation yields success
The unlicensed firearms were made up of 67 pistols, two shotguns, three rifles

A week long festive season operation carried out by the police, from December 16 to December 22, recovered 74 unlicensed firearms.

The operation was carried out in areas such as Bergville and Ezakheni. 32 suspects were arrested and a total of 818 ammunition was recovered.
Police followed up on information about illegal firearms and raided various homesteads. The unlicensed firearms were made up of 67 pistols, two shotguns, three rifles and two homemade firearms were recovered.
All the recovered firearms will be taken for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the province.

“Such operations will continue aiming to get rid of illegal firearms and reduce faction fights, stock theft, taxi related cases and other serious crimes,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.
All arrested suspects already appeared in various courts. Police appeal to the public to assist them by sharing any information about illegal firearms in your area.
