Dundee/Glencoe road closed for roadworks
With schools re-opening tomorrow, the roads are expected to be 'extra busy'
Motorists have been urged to proceed with caution ahead of the re-opening of schools and the closure of the Dundee/Glencoe road. The road, from the testing station to the by-pass, has been closed to traffic for around two to three weeks.
Motorists travelling from Dundee to Glencoe and vice versa will have to use the Sunset Rest road, up Mpati, and enter Glencoe via Biggar Street North, past the Glencoe Prison.

The road from Dundee to Glencoe has been closed at the traffic lights adjacent to the vehicle testing station
Contractors from the Transport Department will be stabilising and re-tarring a section of the badly rutted Dundee/Glencoe road from the railway bridge, over two river bridges, towards the first bend.
This section of road has been the scene of many accidents in recent years and is especially treacherous in wet conditions as pools of water gather in the ruts, causing some vehicles to aqua-plane.
Frikkie Coetsee of the Endumeni Traffic Department said he expected the roads to be ‘extra busy’ tomorrow with schools re-opening.
“We will have traffic officers on duty at the major intersections and we urge motorists to exercise caution. Residents wanting to access plots outside Glencoe, from the railway bridge to the Sarel Cilliers High School turn-off, will be allowed to do so.”
The contractors expect the work to be completed within 15-20 days, depending on the weather.

Access to Dundee from the by-pass intersection on the Glencoe road has also been closed.
