Practising professionalism at Estcourt Hospital

As public servants, the nurses were encouraged to always put patients first

Estcourt Provincial Hospital celebrated its very first Professionalism and Ethics Event on December 4.

The aim was to revive the professional practices in nursing according to the professional code and also to remind staff that they have a duty to care, be committed and passionate and respect and treat patients with dignity at all times irrespective of colour, creed, religious denomination or social standing.

As public servants, the nurses were encouraged to always put patients first as well as to uphold the Batho Pele (“People First”) principles and Patients’ Rights Charter.

Motivational speeches, the candle lighting and recapturing the Nurses Pledge were highlights of the day.

The event was themed ‘Walk like a nurse, talk like a nurse and dress like a nurse.’ This was demonstrated through a role play.

Matron Wasilah Adam, the champion for Profession and Ethics, sincerely thanked the Ethics Champion Committee members for their hard work and dedication in making the event a resounding success.

The management team also conveyed their appreciation to sponsors for the refreshments.
