Dwindling water levels plague KZN dams

Wagendrift Dam is 81.6 percent full

Decreasing water levels at dams across the province and the dire need for rain are dominating some conversations as temperatures continue to soar, leaving an arid landscape behind.

Wagendrift Dam is according to statistics released by the Water Affairs Department on January 7, 81.6 percent full.
The well-loved dam was 100.4 percent full this time last year.

The Craigie Burn Dam located on the Mnyamvubu River, near Greytown is also suffering a similar fate. Currently the dam is 70.8 percent full as opposed to being 98.5 percent full at this time last year.

Spring Grove Dam near Mooi River recorded a water capacity of 73.9 percent during January 2018 and this year, the dam is 51.2 percent full.

However, the capacity at Midmar Dam is currently 93.9 percent as opposed to last year’s 82.2 percent.
