RTI issue close to 50 000 fines on the N3

"438 people were arrested for drinking and driving along the N3"

The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) will continue to ensure safe roads for the rest of this month.

This forms part of the festive season plan, which included integrated roadblocks as well as speed timing.

“438 people were arrested for drinking and driving along the N3, while 49 579 fines were issued,” said RTI spokesperson for KwaZulu-Natal Zinhle Mngomezulu.

One of the most common misdemeanours was seat belts not being used.

Ms Mngomezulu also reported that while there was no specific hotspot for most traffic violations, most of the common problems were human errors resulting in car crashes.

Traffic officers will continue to be hard at work making sure roads are safe even though the festive season has come to a close.
