The 120 voting stations within the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality were opened on January 26 and 27.

“From the figure, 2 783 were completely new registrations. This was due to voter relocation within the same municipality and or voters with no valid physical addresses,” explained Municipal Electoral Officer (MEO) Vusumuzi Magubane.

When asked about the few incidents, which occurred during the voter registration weekend, Mr Magubane replied:

“It was nothing that hindered the process of us registering voters.”The Registration Weekend Reconciliation Report for the municipality did have to deal with duplicate registrations and faulty scanners.

“Everyone within the municipality must exercise their democratic right to participate in the decision making by electing people who will govern the country.

“While we are waiting for the proclamation of the election date by the President, which will take place soon, use this last opportunity to register and/or to update your physical addresses by visiting our IEC offices next to the municipal building in Victoria Street during office hours,” urged Mr Magubane.
