Married for 58 years, friends for 64 years

Loving couple are always seen together...

Rosalie (Rose) and William George ‘Boet’ Makins are one of the area’s most loved couple. They are well known in fishing circles and were pioneers of the Dundee Angling Club. They have been married for 58 years and friends for 64 years!
“We met in about 1955 when Boet was an apprentice electrician and he came to tech, which was above the old post office, in Victoria Street. We were married in the Presbyterian Church, on February 4, 1961,” says Rose.
“We have been blessed with three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. We lived in Durnacol where Boet worked and then moved to a small holding near Dannhauser. Seventeen years ago we moved back to Dundee.”
But why Boet? Rose laughs as she explains. “He was known to my family as Bill (from William) but his friends gave him the name Boet because he was always so helpful – fixing their bicycles etc. So to them, he was their Big Boet and the name stuck.”
Rose is also a keen artist and the couple are always seen together where ever they go.
