Vehicle license confusion baffles Ashruf

According to Ashruf, he went to the Dundee Traffic Department to query about his vehicle license and to his surprise, he was told that he would be given a new number plate and a new log book which he did not take.

Renewing a vehicle license is something that has to be done annually. If you fail to renew your license, you will be liable to pay late licensing penalties and arrears.
Ashruf Sema a resident in Dundee, applied for his vehicle license December last year, but had a few hiccups and only received it early this month.
According to Ashruf, he went to the Dundee Traffic Department to query about his vehicle license and to his surprise, he was told that he would be given a new number plate and a new log book which he did not take.

” I refused the new number plate because no one gave me a clear explanation on the delay and on top of that I would lose my insurance policy if I took a new number plate.
“I was also charged twice for my log book but I still don’t have it as they took it,” stated Ashruf.
“On January 18, I went back to their offices and the log book I was given said my vehicle was a rebuilt which is wrong.
“Thankfully, I now have my license but I still don’t have my log book,” he continued.

The Courier contacted the Traffic Department in Pietermaritzburg and spoke to ‘Carol’, an agent in the Support Department who explained: “Mr Sema’s application was sent to us in January for auditing, however, it was sent back on January 23.
“Mr Sema needs to go back to the branch and inquire about the delay of his log book.
“He will then get a letter of approval of his motor license and they must contact the relevant department involved regarding his original logbook,” she added.
Ashraf went to the Department of Traffic last week and was told that the log book has not come back yet.
He is still without his logbook but did receive his vehicle license.
