Taxi rank area now operational at Mall

“We thank them, as well as the municipal Traffic Department and SAPS for their continuous support and assistance in this regard.”

Incessant hooting, congested parking areas and ‘nuisance’ taxi drivers are a thing of the past at the Newcastle Mall.

As of January 28, the Mall’s taxi area became operational with a ‘soft opening’; an official opening will be conducted at a later stage.

Marketing Manager of Newcastle Mall, Beulah Rajkumar, confirmed that permits for the Mall’s rank were recently issued by the Department of Transport.

“We thank them, as well as the municipal Traffic Department and SAPS for their continuous support and assistance in this regard.”

The taxi rank area is now the only designated drop-off and pick-up point at the Mall.

As such, the municipality appointed security specifically for the rank area.

“Ongoing monitoring is done by the local traffic department, together with Mall security,” confirmed Rajkumar.

She further thanked customers, saying they would always be welcome to shop at the Mall.

“We also want to thank them for their support.”
