Blood donors rewarded for giving the gift of life

It is for this reason, the South African National Blood Services invited these controllers to an appreciation ceremony at the Grey Goose Conference Centre on Saturday.

Residents of Newcastle who have taken the initiative to assist and host blood clinics at schools, malls and various places in the community are known as controllers.

It is for this reason, the South African National Blood Services invited these controllers to an appreciation ceremony at the Grey Goose Conference Centre on Saturday.

“This function is for you and this is our way to say ‘thank you’,” said Donor Relations Practitioner, Shavani Sewpaul.

Phelelani Mkhize (SANBS zone manager) welcomed guests and applauded the hard work they have contributed during the year.

“We are partners in this. Not many people can say they can save lives like we do through our work. You make our work easier,” he said

Chairperson of the Donor Branch Committee, James Dlamini encouraged controllers to continue spreading the word of becoming a regular blood donor.

“Doing the right thing never goes out of style. Blood is one of life’s most important components. Blood cannot be substituted or replaced, donors are important because they can provide this component. Wherever we are, lets carrying on recruiting others,” he encouraged.
