Heavy rains cause chaos in Newcastle CBD
Motorists are urged to avoid using these streets until further notice.
UPDATE: Destruction and chaos following freak storm
A downpour experienced in the CBD and surrounding streets earlier this afternoon has left destruction in its wake.
The heavy rains left the main roads in town waterlogged. These included parts of Allen Street in the CBD, Ayliff and Kirkland Streets.
The flooded streets also affected businesses, as water rose above pavement level and entered into the stores.
A vehicle on Ayliff Street was left submerged in water after the driver attempted to drive through the flooded road.
Motorists are urged to avoid using these streets until further notice.
