Abandonment of dogs on the rise in Ladysmith

Annamarie Koen of the AACL has received many calls from people who say they have left town and simply abandoned their dogs

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) says that, since the beginning of the year, more and more dogs are being abandoned in Ladysmith.

Annamarie Koen from the AACL says that many people who are leaving town just leave their dogs at their places of residence without any care, food or water.

She adds that she has received many calls from people stating that they have abandoned their dogs and left.

There are also more stray dogs in the streets and Annamarie says this comes as a result of people not being able to take care of their animals due to the cost thereof.

Many stray dogs Annamarie has picked up have given birth to puppies at the kennels.

She says she is already up to 30 dogs this year alone and the number is on the rise.
