Estcourt community mourns the untimely death of Frank Saltmarsh

Frank Saltmarsh (41) was found dead in his house in Bethlehem last Friday

Frank Keith Saltmarsh’s deviation from his routine on Friday morning pricked at his mom Pam’s maternal instinct.

“Ever morning I get a message from Frank – ‘good morning, have a lovely day’ – and I didn’t get that message on Friday,” said Ms Saltmarsh.

That message would never come; instead, she received a call at 9am with news that has shattered the family’s world.

Mr Saltmarsh (41) was found dead in his house in Bethlehem, no foul play is suspected.

Mr Saltmarsh was born on August 2 in Estcourt and from a young age aspired to be in a field of work that helped others.

His mother remembers how as a teen he volunteered at the fire station, working under then Fire Chief George van Niekerk. Later in life, the calling to be a paramedic hit close to home.

“What drove him to be a paramedic was that he could not save his sister’s life when she was in a car accident. It was a personal decision for him and something he was passionate about. He wrote somewhere that it was not a job, but a calling. He had a wonderful personality, had so many friends and always wanted to help others,” said his mother Ms Saltmarsh.

Mr Saltmarsh’s funeral will be held on March 16 at 11am at the Estcourt Methodist Church in Victoria Street.

A planned convoy of all emergency services including paramedics, fire department, traffic, police and medical staff in full uniform will meet at Midway Garage at 10am and proceed to the church.
