Morning light reveals aftermath of devastating hailstorm

Homes and vehicles sustained extensive damage due to the hailstorm.

Residents have woken up to damaged cars and houses following a destructive hailstorm which ripped through parts of Newcastle last night.

Hailstones believed to be the size of golf balls and bigger, broke through car windscreens and windows causing extensive damage.

The roofs of some homes were left with holes which resulted in rain water flooding them.

Residents have already begun to salvage and repair their home roofs as soon as day light broke.
