Deadline for valuation objections fast approaches
Since the end of February, residents have had the opportunity to challenge updated property values released by Newcastle Municipality, with the new values coming into effect as of July 1 this year.

The objection period for the 2019 General Valuation Roll (GVR) will close on Friday (April 12).
Since the end of February, residents have had the opportunity to challenge updated property values released by Newcastle Municipality, with the new values coming into effect as of July 1 this year.
Valuation adjustments are certain to impact consumer accounts as well.
By now, property owners should have received official Section 49 notices, explaining the new value of their properties as well as how these figures were calculated.
Durban-based company, Evaluations compiled the 2019 GVR.
An official representing the company said the updating of the valuation roll involved using comparative sales figures for properties from a year prior, compared to market sales by area.
Figures are available at the municipal rates hall.
Residents can make objections to the updated valuations online at newcastle.gov.za, at the Civic Centre on Murchison Street or during municipal information drives.
